The first order of business today is to announce the winner of last week’s Laurie Berkner Band CD giveaway! Congratulations to Sadia! Send us an email so we can arrange your prize!
Today’s product review and giveaway is with Money Savvy Generation!I absolutely love the products from this company, along with the principles that go with them. Think about this- how much education did you receive when you were young in regards to handling money? For me, it was a personal finance class in high school that taught you how to balance a checkbook, but that was about it.
Money Savvy Generation is all about teaching kids how to handle money responsibly, starting from a young age. Personally, I think this is an amazingly smart move on the part of the company, and on the part of all of the customers who purchase their products! My kids are very young, but I don’t think it is ever too early to start talking about important concepts and principles that we want to instill in our children. The flagship product of Money Savvy Generation is the Money Savvy Pig!
I received this item to review, and I absolutely love it! (This totally beats the Tootsie Roll bank I had as a kid.) It has four separate chambers to store coins, stressing the importance of keeping money designated for each of the appropriate actions: save, spend, donate, and invest. The interactive nature of this bank is what makes it so fun, and an effective teaching tool for kids, instead of merely socking away money for your kids, you are actually showing them how to handle it themselves- a FAR greater gift to your children. I love that it is not just a bank to hold cash, but a reminder that we should also invest our money for the future, and donate a portion to help others. Right now, I admit, my kids just enjoy playing with pigs (and making the appropriate animal noises), but this is definitely something I plan to use as a teaching tool as the grow.
Money Savvy Generation has a wide range of products that are appropriate for kids of all ages. If your kids are a bit older, they may enjoy this series of books which teaches kids important lessons about handling money:
Are you a teacher? Money Savvy Generation has some great teaching tools as well for elementary students!
