I love music, no surprise here I’ve only said that a million times on this blog, and I love to share music with my kids. I let my kids listen to pretty much any kind of music, within reason naturally, and love to share non-traditional childrens music with them. We love Laurie Berkner and have now been introduced to another artist that is quickly becoming a household favorite; DidiPop.
Before we get to the CD, here’s some more information on DidiPop from her site:
DidiPop is a sound, a feeling and a way of looking at life. Original family music creator Deborah Poppink believes that children need age appropriate songs that not only entertain but reveal the magic in everyday adventures. She wants families to use the songs as jumping off points for conversations, singalongs and even more creativity. The music is sophisticated, smart, sassy, funny and real. Deborah believes that love, health and creativity are the building blocks to a happy life and home. DidiPop hopes to inspire ideas in children with the motto, “Any Dream is Possible” and to foster an open and empowering parenting energy among care-givers. Her goal is to take families on a musical journey and give them the world.
After earning a degree from UC Berkeley in Sociology and Music, Deborah jumped into teaching (and has taught over 10,000 piano lessons) and concurrently became known as a performer (doing over 1,000 shows). With 28 stamps on her passport, she has collected a treasure trove of unique experiences playing and teaching music in exotic locals like Bali, Montreal, Laos, Turkey, Belize, Tahiti, Morocco and Malaysia, in addition to performances in such L.A. clubs as The House of Blues and McCabe’s. With a catalog of over 300 works, she has contributed to many LA based projects including the Jack and Jill TV show and The X-Files (both TV and film). A 2009 trip to Maui with her music publisher husband and daughters Delilah and Hannah provided the inspiration and ambiance for most of the songs that appear on Deborah’s new family CD, DidiPop Goes to Hawaii. Currently, Deborah is busily writing songs for her next family music CD.
Now, let’s talk about the CD! There are 13 songs, and the way they are placed on the CD it almost chronicles a trip to Hawaii. The first song, Wowie Gazowie (which I hum constantly now) is all about heading to Maui and then is followed up by Coconut Candy, Kapalua Bay, Way Up High, Mango, The Hawaiian Alphabet Song, The Keiki Hula, Hop-a-loo, I Like Pigs, Sugar Cane Train, Isabella Is, Cowabunga and Going Home.
All of the songs are upbeat, catchy and great for the whole family. I have the album uploaded on the kids playlist in the playroom and the actual CD is in my car. This album is especially perfect right now when the weather is pretty dreary and cold, this album is a great pick me up. Today one lucky reader has a chance to win a copy of DidiPop Goes to Hawaii. For a required entry simply tell me your favorite DidiPop song. You can listen to all the songs from this album, and all of DidiPop’s other albums on her website.
