Candace of The Hickey Triplets (and Texas Multi Mamas!)

Hi!  My name is Candace Hickey and I am one of six mothers who are on the upcoming reality TV show “Texas Multi Mamas” on WE tv.  The program will premiere on Tuesday, December 27 at 7:00 p.m. CST with episode 2 airing immediately after at 8:00 p.m. CST.  The show is a Dallas based reality program focusing on six mothers who have multiples:  twins, triplets or quadruplets!  I am a mother to triplets.

This process began for my family almost 3 years ago.  A production company stumbled across my blog and contacted me to see if I would be interested in being part of a reality show about women who are mothers to multiples.  The next thing I knew, they flew out from L.A. and began filming our family and every day routine.  After filming for one week, the crew flew back to L.A. and I did not really hear about any concrete interest from them for about 6 months.  At that point, I presumed the idea had just fizzled.

Soon after hitting the 6-month mark from the initial interview, I received a phone call from the production company notifying us that we had been selected as part of the cast!  Fast forward about a year of back and forth communications with the production company and various networks, we were ready to begin filming for WEtv!  Filming completed about 3 months after that and we were ready to see the final product.

Lately, people have been asking me why I would want to be a part of a reality TV show.  I believe what makes “Texas Multi Mamas” unique is that this is a look into the lives of six families of multiples with individual dynamics.  Each mother has their own personality and their own opinions on everything from parenting, to marriage to social activities.  If sharing my life and experiences can benefit other mothers whether they have one child or six, then it is well worth the effort.  In the past, most reality shows about multiples focus on just one family.  This is the first show to focus on several families and mothers who are all friends.

Our family had a very positive experience from being a part of this show.  Sure it was time consuming, but nothing more than we expected.  For our triplets, Brooks, Reese and Sloane, I think this will be an experience they can reflect on when they are older and say “that was fun when we were on that TV show”.  My husband, Steve, and I feel very fortunate to have had this opportunity to open up our lives to the world.  We realize that some people may make negative comments, but for us all that matters is our family.  We know who we are and we have family and friends who love us very much.
