Book Review and Giveaway: Double Duty: A Parents’ Guide to Raising Twin from Pregnancy through the School Years

Double Duty: A Parents’ Guide to Raising Twins from Pregnancy Through the School Years

How is a twin pregnancy different than a singleton pregnancy? Will I have to have a c-section? Do I need two (or three, or four) of everything? How will I potty-train two toddlers at the same time? How will I be able to give them individual attention?

These questions probably look pretty familiar; they are just a few of the many questions and challenges that flood the mind of a newly pregnant mom of twins. The newly published second edition of Double Duty by Christina Baglivi Tonglof addresses all of these questions, and then some.

Tinglof starts at the beginning, giving us the stats about twinning; who is most likely to have twins, and addressing all the myths and truths surrounding the occurrence of twins (FYI-They do NOT skip a generation). Next, she gives us a detailed explanation of the nutritional needs of a multiples pregnancy, tips for what to bring to the hospital, as well as safe exercises for the later stages of pregnancy.

From breastfeeding twins, to tips for dealing with simultaneous screaming, all the pressing newborn issues of are covered in this book, as well as toddler issues and beyond. The last section of the book includes a list of twin related websites, as well as a list of companies that offer free products to families of multiples. The bottom line: Double Duty is a great resource for any family expecting twins. I personally found the the last page of the book spoke the truest words about raising multiples (or any children):

While I encourage you to use this book as a guide, it’s more important to listen to your heart and do what you think is best for your twins.”

Educate yourself, learn from others, and in the end, make decisions based on what your heart tells you to do.
